SPEECH Contest

Our students blew us away at our annual Speech Contest.  We are so proud of all of our student speakers.  They were poised and articulate as they delivered their speeches to their fellow Huskies! Congratulations!  Audrey, Andrew, and Kayla will go on to represent our school at the district competition! Way to Go!

District School Board Meeting

Our school district will hold a Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:00 pm.  Our own VAPA Music Teacher, Brad Collins, will be honored at the meeting.  Congratulations Mr. Collins!  Also, the Board will conduct a Public Hearing on revisions to the Local Control Accountability Plan.  They want to hear your input, please consider attending.  For more information, please review the agenda: Agenda

ELAC and SSC Meeting

We will hold a joint ELAC and SSC meeting this month.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 14th at 8:15 am in our MPR.  We will discuss the Local Control Accountability Plan and how you can share your input.  All parents are strongly encouraged to join us.  We hope to see you there.

TK and KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

kindergarten_registration2Please let your friends and neighbors know that transitional kindergarten and kindergarten registration packets are available now.  Registration packets will be accepted on Wednesday, February 20th.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding registration for the 2019 -2020 school year.

Create-a-Tile

Join us for a night of family fun! Create a tile to be displayed on Hedenkamp pillars for years to come.

  • WHEN: Wednesday, February 20, 2019
  • WHERE: MPR (Multi-Purpose Room)
  • TIME: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • COST: $15/tile PTA Member, $18/tile for Non-PTA Members

Extended!! Tiles will be sold online only, and will be sold through the 15th! There will be no refunds.

Single Sign On

All students must use their Microsoft Single Sign On (SSO) in order to access Achieve3000, Smarty Ants, and ThinkCentral (Go Math!) programs form now on.  We have updated the links on our blog to direct students to the the Microsoft Single Sign On link for the district.  If you receive an error message when attempting to login, you may need to clear your web browser history. Google Chrome is the preferred browser to use for these programs.   If you need assistance accessing any of our programs, please let us know. Yearbooks

2018 – 2019 Yearbooks will be available for purchase on our webstore beginning February 10th to March 15th.

Yearbooks cost $35 and a personalized version is available for $40. They will be delivered at the end of the year. A limited amount of yearbooks will be available for purchase at the end of the year for $50.

They will only be available through the website and there are no refunds.

If you have pictures of any school events like field trips, dances, Husky Howl, etc. for the 2018-2019 school year that you think might be good for the yearbook, please email it to historian@huskiespta.com. Please include your child’s or children’s name, grade, and their teacher’s name. You just might see it in the yearbook!

DISTRICT SPELLING BEE

spelling-bee.jpg-7015The District Spelling Bee was held on Saturday.  We are very proud of all the contestants that represented Hedenkamp in the District Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Nicholas, Chloe, Sophie, Raphael, Jayden, Renzo, Julius, Serena, Jorell, Leo,  Rianajun, Rishab, Haaris, and Ryan for being the top spellers in our school and being selected to participate in the District Spelling Bee.  We are proud of you! We would also like to congratulate Raphael for being first place in first grade in the district, Rianajun for being second place in fifth grade in the district, Haaris for being third place in sixth grade in the district, and Chloe for being third place in kindergarten in the district.  Way to Go!

Husky HuddLE

Our next Husky Huddle is scheduled for Monday, February 4th at 8:45 am on our blacktop. Please wear Husky Wear or our school colors of red and blue for our Husky Huddle! We encourage you all to join us on Monday morning!

KINDNESS WEEK

Our Student Council has planned an exciting week of Kindness at Hedenkamp! be-kind-whenever-possible-it-is-always-possible-14 Kindness Week will begin on February 4th and run through Friday, February 8th.  The week will include School Spirit Days and Kindness Challenges that all Huskies can perform!  We are looking forward to a wonderful week celebrating kindness at Hedenkamp! If you would like to join in the joy of spreading kindness as a family, please check out the Family Kindness Challenges!

Our Spirit Days include:
2/4 – I “Mustache” You to Be Kind
2/5  – Peace, Love, and Kindness Day
2/6 –We’re Crazy for Kindness (Crazy Hair Day)

ELPAC Testing

Is your child an English Language Learner?  Did you know that all our English Language Learners will be participating in the ELPAC assessment this week?  ELPAC stands for the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California.  You can take a practice test with your child here: ELPAC Practice Tests. Please ensure your children are well rested, well fed, and prepared to show all the English they know on the ELPAC assessment.

LOCAL CONTROL ACCOUNTABILITY PLAN INPUT

ThoughtExchange is an online learning process that allows us to reach out to everyone affected by the decisions made in our District. This process enables us to hear your ideas, and learn about priorities. We will share more about our current Local Control Accountability Plan and how you can share your input for this important plan on Thursday, February 14th at our joint ELAC and SSC meeting.  We hope to see you all there.

CONGRATULATIONS SPELLERS

We hosted our fourth annual Spelling Bee at Hedenkamp on Saturday.  Congratulations to the top spellers from each class that participated! We are proud of all of  you! Please check out twitter for pictures of all the spellers that participated!  Special thanks to Dr. Woodford, Ms. Martucci, Mrs. Abraham, Ms. Monis, Mrs. Josa, Ms. E. Crowley, and Mrs. King for helping ensure the event was a success!  We also would like to thank all the families and our PTA that donated funds to purchase trophies and prizes for the Spelling Bee.spellingbee

ELPAC Test Informational MeetinG


Is your child an English Language Learner?  Did you know that all our English Language Learners will be participating in the ELPAC assessment the week of February 4th ?   Please come to an important meeting to learn  more about the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) , join us

Kids HEART Challenge

It takes heart to be a hero! Our students will be Heart Heroes as they participate in the Kids Heart Challenge on February 1 at 10:00 am on the blacktop.  Our students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association.  If you would like to donate to this great organization please visit Hedenkamp’s Kids Heart Challenge Site. Everyone is encouraged to wear red on February 1st  to encourage healthy lifestyles for a healthy heart!  Please wear red and join us for the Kids Heart Challenge on February 1st.

Our 6th grade will be hosting the FIRST Bingo Night here at Hedenkamp. So exciting! The event is scheduled for January 23, 2019 from 5 pm – 6:30 pm in the MPR. We hope to see you there!

MOTHER SON DANCE

Get ready to dance the night away in the MPR on Friday, January 25th from 6 PM – 8 PM.  Don’t forget to purchase your tickets ONLINE at the webstore.  No tickets will be sold at the door, so please get your tickets now. Our 4th Annual Spelling Bee will take place on Saturday, January 26th from 8:15 am to about 1:00 pm.  We are looking forward to a great morning of friendly spelling competition.  If your child earned a spot in the School Spelling Bee, Dr. Woodford will hold a Spelling Bee preparation class on Tuesday, January 22nd from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in Room 504.

Bingo Night 6th Grade Fundraiser Ticket Sale

Please join us for the PTA General Meeting Wednesday, January 16th, at 5:30pm in the MPR. We will be discussing PTA nominations for the 2019 – 2020 board.

Mother-Son Dance

Tickets are now on sale!

The Mother-Son Dance is January 25 at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Hedenkamp’s MPR. Tickets are available on the Hedenkamp PTA webstore from January 13th to the 20th. Tickets are $15/per person, so you will need to buy one ticket for each individual. For example, if a mother and son are attending the dance, you will need to buy two tickets. If the mother is bringing two sons, you will need to buy three. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

This is a very popular event and there are only 400 tickets available. Make sure you act early if you want to participate.

There are no refunds for this event.

In lieu of online Winter Husky Wear Sale, ourPTA will be hosting several “Pop Up” Husky Wear Sales on campus in the next few months. If you are unable to attend a pop up due to work, please email Karen at pta@huskiespta.com and we can arrange a different time.

WELCOME BACK!

Happy New Year! We would like to welcome everyone back to school for the Winter Quarter. As always, there is much going on this quarter including the Mother and Son Dance, Jump Rope for Heart, Speech Contest, Spelling Bee, and Read Across America.  Also, our basketball and soccer teams will begin their games against other CVESD schools! Please check our blog regularly for up to the minute information.  We also encourage everyone to join Twitter for daily pictures and information about what is happening at Hedenkamp.  Twitter is a great way to follow Hedenkamp Huskies!

Remember, school begins on Tuesday, January 15 and it is a minimum day. School begins promptly at 8:45 am for all students. Please make it a goal to be at school and on time daily!  1st-6th students are dismissed at 1:55 p.m. and our Kindergarten students are dismissed at 1:25 p.m on Tuesday. We are so excited to see you all at school in a few days!

Athletics Parent Meeting

Are you the parent of a Husky soccer or basketball player? If so, please plan to attend our parent meeting on Monday, January 14 at 5:00 pm in the MPR.  We will share our vision for our sports programs at Hedenkamp as well as the expectations we have for parents and students throughout the season.  Coaches will also share additional information with their respective teams.  We strongly encourage all parents of our basketball and soccer players to attend.  Student athletes should attend as well.

MOTHER & SON DANCE

HEDENKAMP GATE

The Winter Quarter for our Hedenkamp GATEimages Program begins on Wednesday, January 30 @ 3:30 p.m.  The strength of our GATE Program is our Parent and Student Teachers. It has been an absolutely wonderful experience for our students to work with parents and other students.

Please let us know if you would like to teach a GATE class this quarter. The schedule would be January 30 through March 6. All classes begin at 3:30 and end at 4:30 p.m. Please call or email  Mrs. Mazeau or Mr. DeVore, if you would like to join our GATE Team!  A class interest survey for GATE students will be sent out January 18.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

snowman_happyholidaysWe  can’t believe it is already the last week of classes for 2018 and that half of the school year is coming to a close. Thank you to each of our families for your support and dedication to our Hedenkamp community.  We are grateful for all of you! On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, we want to wish everyone a terrific Winter Break.  It has been a fantastic first half of the school year!  Our students are amazing and we are fortunate to have the best teachers and staff in the Chula Vista Elementary School District.

TIS’ THE SEASON FOR CANDY CANE GRAMS!

Our annual sixth grade fundraiser is well underway.  Our sixth grade students are selling candy cane grams through December 20th.  Students, staff, and parents may purchase candy cane grams for their friends and families during lunch time.  Candy Cane Grams are 75  cents each or two for a dollar.  All monies raised will be used for 6th grade end-of-the-year activities!

Theatrical Ensemble Winter Performance

We are so excited for our Theatrical Ensemble performances this week! Our evening performances are December 18th and 19th at 6:30 p.m.  Doors open at 5:45 p.m.  There are a limited number of tickets available and will be sold at the door on each night of the performances. Our Ensemble students, staff, and boosters have worked so hard to prepare for our performances of  Holiday Road Trip.  Please take a moment to thank everyone involved with our Ensemble for their hard work and dedication.  We are so proud of everyone involved!   We continue to be so impressed with our phenomenal Theatrical Ensemble!

REPORT CARDS

Report cards will be sent home Friday with your students.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

SOFTWARE TOOLS

holiday-computerIf you would like your students to practice skills over the break, please check out the many options under Student Links.  Achieve 3000, Go Math, MobyMax, Imagine Learning,  Raz Kids,  and Khan Academy are all available to your students at home.  All students that complete at least 8 Achieve articles at 75% or higher over the winter break will be rewarded for their hard work.  BrainPop is another great site to learn about history and science.  It is also a great way to increase vocabulary and comprehension.  Please call the school or your child’s teacher prior to winter break if you have any questions about our software tools.

Lost and Found

imgresAs the second quarter comes to a close, please be sure to stop by the lost and found to identify any of your child’s belongings. We will be donating all unclaimed  items on Friday, December 21.

THIRD QUARTER

Save-the-Date-1-300x300Our third quarter will begin on Tuesday, January 15.  Please keep in mind that day is a minimum day.  All Kindergarten students will attend from 8:45 – 1:25.  All 1st – 6th grade students will be dismissed at 1:55.  We are looking forward to a wonderful third quarter with our students!
