Weekly Message for Our Huskies

We Love Our Military Connected Huskies!

Hello Huskies! Guess what, It is a Spirit Week! April is month of the Military Child! We will show our support for all our military connected students by participating in a fun spirit week! Please check out the flyer for all the details!

Please send any pictures of our Huskies participating in our Spirit Days to gina.mazeau@cvesd.org.

Attendance Information

We are very excited to have many of our Huskies back on campus! We missed our students greatly. As always, please contact our Attendance Health Specialist, Carla Giron, if your student will be absent from school for any reason, regardless of whether they are in hybrid or distance learning. Please email carla.giron@cvesd.org with the reason for your child’s absence.

Please note, for students physically at school in hybrid learning, it is very important that parents/guardians speak with our office staff regarding the reason for any student absence from class.  For the health and safety of all students and staff, students who are absent without parent contact will not be allowed back on campus until the parent/guardian discusses the reason for the absence with school office staff.

  • If a student is sick, we will ask the parent to confirm which symptoms the student is experiencing.
  • If symptoms align with symptoms of COVID-19, the school will follow the COVID-19 Decision Tree in collaboration with the school site nurse.
  • If symptoms are part of a chronic condition, the school will work with the school site nurse to determine next steps.
  • If symptoms are not a possible symptom of COVID-19, the student will be welcomed back to school after following normal school health protocols.

We look forward to an amazing rest of our school year. Thank you for your support of our learning environment.

Hey Huskies! We will have two Spirit Days this week. On Monday, April 19th, we will wear rainbow colors for Autism Acceptance Month. We will wear rainbow colors to show our acceptance for all people with Autism. The rainbow colors represent the spectrum of abilities and strengths all people with autism have. We love and accept all the Huskies in our community with Autism. Wear Rainbow Colors on Monday to show your acceptance of people with Autism!

We Loved Welcoming Huskies Back for Hybrid Learning!

We had such a great week with our Huskies! It was such an exciting time! We were thrilled to have so many Huskies back in person. Our Huskies did an incredible job following our new procedures and protocols. We appreciate all our parents helping ensure a smooth transition to hybrid learning. Everyone has done a great job following our drop off and pick up procedures. Thank you for remembering to have your thumbs up placards at drop off and your name placards for pick up. Thank you for remembering to stay in your cars and pull forward as the cars ahead move. The lines have moved quickly each day! We are able to complete the ingress and egress. procedures in less than ten minutes. We have two important reminders for pick up and drop off. Please don not let your child out of the car until staff members are available to check the thumbs up placards. We start checking the placards at 8:25 am for the AM cohort and 12:10 pm for the PM cohort. Please don’t arrive before those times. The gates open at 8:30 am for the AM cohort and 12:15 pm for the PM cohort. Also, please remember parents should not park in the parking lot or down the street and walk their children on campus. All families dropping off or picking up in a car must use the drop off pick up lanes. If you are walking or biking to campus from your home, remember to stop at the orange cones. Due to social distancing requirements, parents are not allowed on campus. We greatly appreciate your support with keeping our Huskies safe!

VAPA Instruction

Our Huskies will participate in VAPA instruction this week! Our VAPA schedules have changed due to our transition to hybrid instruction. Students will participate in VAPA at times that do not conflict with in person instruction. For example, if your child attends in person classes in the PM cohort, they will participate in VAPA during the morning. Our teachers will let you know the new VAPA schedule. Our upper grade students will keep the same VAPA teachers. Our primary students may have a change in VAPA teachers. Again, our teachers will share the details for VAPA this week. All our VAPA classes are on the Google platform. Students will use the banner link on their VAPA Google classroom to join their live class meetings. Please reach out to our VAPA team with any VAPA related questions.

COVID – 19 Testing at Hedenkamp

Last week you should have received (through email and/or text message) information on how to register for your child to get tested for COVID-19 at our school site. You will not need to make an appointment for testing at our school sites.  Our schools will provide on-demand testing, which means that we are accepting “walk-ins”—no appointments are necessary. Here is important information on the CVESD COVID-19 Testing Program:

  • Testing will occur at Hedenkamp Elementary School campus on the following days:  April 20, May 4, May 18, and June 1.
  • On these days, testing will occur from 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with no testing from 12:50-1:20 pm due to staff lunch times.
  • If your student is experiencing symptoms, we highly recommend getting a PCR test at a free County facility or with a medical provider, and not reporting to the school for the antigen test. Unfortunately, the antigen tests used by CVESD cannot be used for return to work or school, per the County’s Symptom Decision Tree. The antigen testing program is for surveillance purposes, in order to quickly determine if individuals are positive and remove such individuals and their close contacts from campus as soon as possible. Contact our school health office for more information or discuss your child’s symptoms.
  • At this time, we can only test staff and CVESD students. No family members are able test at this time.
  • If you have trouble registering/providing consent for your child through the link, please call the district office at (619) 425-9600 and speak to Sherry Stone at ext. 1327 or Theresa Fletcher at ext. 1027 or visit the testing staff on-site at our school and they will be able to help register and test your child during your visit.
  • Because we are not taking appointments, we know there will be long lines before and after school.  Please take this into account when planning the time have your child tested.   Please be patient with the testing team and listen carefully to their instructions.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus on our campus.

Hybrid Instruction Begins for Some and DL Continues for Some ~ April 12th

About 60% of our Huskies will begin hybrid instruction on campus on Monday and about 40% of our Huskies will continue with Distance Learning. Several Huskies will be changing teachers or welcoming new classmates to their class. Please talk to your children about the upcoming changes so they are prepared. Please let them know it is ok to feel nervous or excited and that it helps to talk about those feelings. We want all our Huskies to have a smooth transition this week. Please remember we shared all the details about reopening in our reopening chat in March, if you would like to review it, it is posted on Class Dojo. We also encourage you to review our Reopening Handbook. The handbook includes schedules and the procedures for drop off and pick up that we reviewed in our Reopening Chat. Please feel free to email me at gina.mazeau@cvesd.org if you have any additional questions about the upcoming changes. We are so excited to welcome our Huskies back in person on Monday, April 12th.
